New Years Pressure

Hello Friends and welcome to 2018!

We are now into the new year and some of you are probably on a lull from all of the recent festivities. Some of you may be motivated on making those New Years resolutions a reality. Some of you might just see today as any other day. However you are spending today, I hope it is with a smile on your face.

In my experience, with the new year reining in, so do come the pressures that we put on ourselves for instant improvements. We promise ourselves one thing or another and with a fresh year, we feel it is a perfect time for a fresh start.

What I have seen a lot and also what I have done myself many times over is expected too much too soon and given up at the first hurdle. The thing is, there is much to be done before we can jump this first hurdle and really see ourselves be on track. If we do not train, can we really finish the race? Logically speaking, yes of course we could finish, but it will be a lot harder if we do not put in the time and effort before the race even begins.

What I am trying to say, without the analogies is that whatever your goals are, whenever you decide to start them, do not put too much pressure on yourself, you will only set yourself up to fail. Try some mini goals that will lead you up to achieving that first hurdle and you will find yourself being way more successful. There is nothing wrong with taking your time and taking steps towards where you want to go. It is also wise to learn your own pace and not compare yourself to others. It is easier said than done, but remember, this race is with yourself and you are going to win it, so go at a pace you are comfortable with that way you will definitely make it.

If any, what resolutions have you set for yourself this year? I would love to know. Myself personally, I wish to be able to learn Swedish this year. I would like to learn enough to be able to hold conversations, read and understand Swedish websites and become a functioning member of the Swedish society, after all, I chose to live here.

Whatever you strive for, believe in yourself and know that you can do it. You do not even need to know how yet, just take those small steps and they will lead you on the path you need to take.

I wish you strength and peace, not just for the new year, but for always.

Until next time, you can do it!

      1. I decided not to see this one when it was out at the cinemas last year. Some good jokes in it.
On other Neptunian stories… am playing in a pathfinder game on the weekend. Taking a rogue into a city adventure.

  1. I like your ambition to learn Swedish, that’s cool and will be a lot of fun! My word for 2018 is ‘humility’, and my plan is that when I get upset or offended about something, I will try to really understand the other person’s point of view by putting myself in their shoes. Not always easy, but that’s the plan.

Hope you have an amazing 2018! 🙂

  2. All the best for the start of a New Year Sara. I’m not really one for resolutions at this time … I see the potential of every new day. To be mindful: to treat others as you would want to be treated yourself. 😌
