What’s That Button?

Hello Friends,

You may have noticed at the bottom of my most recent posts that there is a button that reads “Buy me a Coffee”. This button if clicked, will take you to my ko.fi page. The reason I have set up a Ko.Fi page is because as it is my dream of becoming a full time writer. This is not as easy as clicking my fingers and success is at my door, I have to really work for it and of course I am ready and willing to do so.

This last year I have worked on building an audience on my blog and even without making a living from this, I am truly grateful to each and every one of you for being here.
In January I upgraded my blog to premium so I could get my own site name primarily and since then I have tinkered with the idea of using my blog as part of my earning a living. Unfortunately it is not that easy. In the first two months I have earned a whopping $1.92. In all honesty it is exciting to have earned anything, but of course it won’t be enough for me to become fully self sufficient.

At the end of last year I quit my job and moved to Sweden, I came with savings, but of course they won’t last forever. Getting a job here is not so easy as I am not yet fluent in the language. At first this terrified me, it brought out a nasty case of anxiety and almost made me want to run back to the comforts of home. After a while I started to look at it differently, I have the most amazing support from my other half and so instead of spending this time panicking about every single what if in the future, I decided I would really try and make a go of becoming a “real” writer.

As I am living off of my savings, the Ko.Fi donations will strictly go towards the things I need to become a more equip writer such as study materials that I require to improve, writing courses and also writing materials – notebooks and pens etc. I also have a goal set up to raise money for a writing tablet that I can use on the go. I used to use my phone for this, but it does not hold a charge well these days and tends to switch off during my time out. Having the ability to write down thoughts and ideas even when I am not at my laptop would be extremely useful to me, especially if it can be synced between devices.

I have received a few donations so far and I want to thank all of whom have contributed from the bottom of my heart, it makes me feel that you believe in me and that I can really do this!

If you do enjoy my blog and decide to support me, please know that it will be gratefully received and I will work harder and harder every day to show you that I am improving. Regardless of whether or not you donate, I just want to say again thank you for just being here. The support I get from you guys means the world to me and I will be forever thankful for it.

I truly hope that I can do you all proud and I will work hard to reflect that. I currently have two projects on the go as you may know, My very first novel and also my poetry book. The fact that I am where I am now is overwhelmingly encouraging and I feel like I can really do this!

Until next time, thank you so much.

-Sara

  1. I would recommend you look at alternatives to an Office license. It is slowly growing more and more unnecessary… And there are better uses for your money in my opinion. There are MANY free alternatives, a lot of them arguably more adapted to the modern digital landscape. Google Docs is a great web-based example, or even Microsoft’s free version (inlcuding Onenote Online – an extremely overlooked tool for basic writing). Then there are local tools like LibreOffice, Open Office, etc…

That said, I support you and respect your drive to follow your passion. Glad to help out.

      1. If you use a Mac there’s also a tool called grammarly which will help you with both grammatical errors (while telling you what it is) and which include a text editor. If you are on a Mac there’s also the app Pages which I think works really well.

But if you’re on a Windows machine I’d say that there’s nothing really that beat Microsoft Office (and then there’s always the plugins you can get for it to make it even more beneficial such as the grammarly plugin). But if you must take a free route then LibreOffice is quite good nowadays. If you need to sync then Google Docs or Pages online is ok.

      1. Of course I’m sure. I support a fellow poet. Give me privately, in a mail, where to send the Office invitation. You will have a full fledged Office package in a minute to install on ONE device. Because of limitation of 5, I can allow 1 install only. It does not make my subs price higher, this is an Office feature for subbers to share the software donwloads/installs.

  2. This is amazing. Itโ€™s awesome to see how much drive you have as a writer. Have you looked into submitting to magazines? It would probably help build your portfolio as a writer. Itโ€™s not easy but definitely something to consider!

  3. Good luck, love! Also: I just signed up for Patreon. You should look into it because the whole thing is making an earning off of your work. I just started it, so I don’t have any great tips yet, but hey… it’s something to look into! Can’t wait to see some pictures of Sweden ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Sweden is a cool place, more so than any other country I can think of. Probably my favorite thing about them, is that they have meetings, to discuss having meetings. Now wonder they only work 3/4 of the time.
    Good luck.

  6. $1.92? Blimey! I’ve earned $0.03… :l
I don’t know what it would be like in Sweden, but back here in Brexitstahn performing at poetry jams in coffee bars helps generate a wider following. Plus, people might by you an actual coffee ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Occasionally, yeah. I’m nervous in front of new audiences, so I never take myself seriously. Throw in a bit of self-deprecating humour. And the audiences are always supportive of anybody who has the guts to stand up and read.

  7. Welcome to Sweden by the way! ๐Ÿ™‚ And I think that to make it as a blogger you need to do a lot of different things, for one create quiality content ( I think you’re doing a great job here ) and a lot of promotion. Try promoting on different sources (instagram, twitter, pinterest, facebook etc.) it might help. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Yes Iโ€™m a native Swede, born and raised in the city of Gothenburg in the west of Sweden and now living in Vรคsterรฅs close to the capitol Stockholm after moving here to study. ๐Ÿ™‚
Yeah, Iโ€™ve just started trying out using social media to spread my blog, before I just simply told my closest family and friends about it. But itโ€™s indeed a lot to learn, I still am lucky if I get 20-30 readers per day. But hopefully these readers enjoy it and the blog will continue to grow as I write more content for it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Itโ€™s not easy to have/grow a blog but I think itโ€™s so much fun that itโ€™s worth it. As long as you do it for yourself in the first hand I think you really canโ€™t go wrong.

      2. Ah, I know Gothenburg, that is where my other half was born. We are living in Sรถdertรคlje, which is also not too far from Stockholm.

If you continue to blog as regularly as you can, people who are into the subjects of your posts will start to find you. It is a steady process, but as you say, it is worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚
